ABOUT US

Why We Are the Best?

Coro Cowboy Fishing Charters is owned and operated by Zander and Alysha. We're committed to making sure you get the most out of your trip and are happy to help you in any way you need. We cater for all levels of fishing, from the novice, and young up and coming fishers, to the most experienced.

Our fishing trips are prominently based on the mussel farms located around Coromandel and the firth of Thames. These farms are a huge food source for fish, especially the Snapper that come into the Hauraki gulf and inner-harbours during the warmer months. It is at this time of the year that the fishing for both total novices and well-seasoned fisherman alike is just fantastic. In fact a resent article in one of our national fishing magazines, likened it to “shooting fish in a barrel”.

See the Mussel barges at work. They attract snapper when harvesting – its like a safari moving around – targeting Snapper King Fish, John Dory, Kahawai, & Gurnet in and around the mussel farms.

  • 2 Half day trips all year around and in Summer time we do a third trip in the evening to suit demand. It’s only a 30-minute trip to the mussel farms for that real Coromandel fishing adventure.
  • Full day trips are available for keen fisherman, chasing bird work-ups in the gulf and outer islands for those big Snapper

We also have soft bait rods, Micro jigs and Kingfish rods. Zander, our Coro Cowboy Skipper and Fishing Expert will be there to demonstrate all these options of fishing.

Our Coromandel Fishing Charters are right at our back door and our years of fishing experience is a big advantage. It’s like catching the Coro Cowboy Snapper Express to be fishing in just 30 minutes at the Mussel Farms.
Experienced fishos will appreciate the local knowledge and techniques employed to target their fish. Novices will benefit from the tuition and patience available from the skipper if required.  If you don’t like to touch the smelly bait or fish, he can also bait your hooks and remove your fish for you. Enabling you to still enjoy the thrill of hooking and landing your own fish.

We fish where the fish are in the Coromandel’s Surrounding Islands including Mussel Farms Fishing.

Maps & Directions

From Thames – Follow the road (SH25) to Coromandel Town for approx 50 minutes. As you come down the last set of hills, you will see oyster farms, mussel barges and boats moored in the Coromandel Harbour. At the bottom of the hill, take a sharp left hand turn into Te Kouma Rd. Follow it for approx 2km. Go past the big concrete wharf (Sugarloaf) and onto the metal road. If you look over to your right you will see a long jetty, which is Hannaford’s Wharf, where the charter boats leave from.

Follow the road around to the jetty, there is parking at the top.
